I recently had these 2 codes pop up on my van with 165k miles. It hasn't been the smoothest shifting so I figured something would give eventually. I replaced the torque converter, the pump assembly, bypass valve, VFS Solenoid, stator bearing, cooler lines, all fluid, flushed the cooler, the filter, the torque converter clutch solenoid, both drive shaft seals.
I didn't want to get into it at all, but I couldn't find a local shop that could get the van right in. Everything went really smooth, but now I only have reverse but I can't the van to go forward unless I rev the rpm's quick, then it will move, but it's obviously not right.
Anyone have any thoughts on what it might be?

I think you're low on fluid. Reverse usually will kick in before forward gears when adding fluid. And the P0218 is a transmission overheat code, which makes it seem even more like low fluid. Check and refill according to the temperature and level chart.
