Looks like the valve cover gasket is seeping. Seems to be new since the oil around the seep isn’t dark. Which bolt do you think is missing? It’d be best if you circle it and post a pic that way.

Thanks for the reply!

Circled the spot, maybe for aligning it if not missing bolt?

Leaks tend to come from higher up than where you see them.
Spilled oil from when taking the filter cover off?
Took filter cover off before removing drain plug?
Cracked oil filter housing?

Too high to be the oil cooler, unless it's a high pressure leak that is spraying... but there should be more evidence if that were the case. It's on the transmission side, so that would be one super sloppy oil tech if it were from a filter change.

Leak is either the valve cover gasket or PCV valve.

The missing bolt is not a bolt at all, but as you guessed, an alignment pin.

Was the guy actually a Mechanic or an up-seller?

Sloppiness?. Yes, can be, some weird things happen. For example, in a drive thru there's two or three guys passing stuff around. Then they don't put the engine cover or air box cover on correctly. Been there, seen that happen at a Mopar drive thru even. Messed up the valve caps one time too. The air box cover is a little tricky, actually, three tabs in back need to be in their slots, not outside.

Something to keep an eye on if it's not dripping onto the ground. Could have been a spill that happened some time previous. Is the oil stain wet, there's none dripping at the bolt?
