Is the Fram FT 1240 a good choice as a replacement filter?

For my 2017 DGC XT, I recently installed "Fram FT1240 Auto trans filter". It worked great.

Note: I used below Fel-Pro gasket instead of Fram gasket (with its filter).

I also installed:
- Dorman 090-049CD Oil Drain Plug Pilot Point M12-1.25
- Dorman 265-833 Automatic Transmission Oil Pan

- Fel-Pro TOS 18757 Automatic Transmission Oil Pan Gasket

Hope this helps...

If anybody has done a scientific comparison test, don't believe them. :)

Transmission filters aren't like oil filters. Very high flow and low efficiency. A spin on transmission filter, or inline filter, on the transmission cooler line, would do a better job, but maybe there's no need for a better job.

The majority of automatics have only a screen or panel filter on the pump suction in the pan. Modern pan filters average about 100-micron filtering efficiency (see the sidebar), with older screen filters as poor as 200. For comparison, an average engine oil filter can remove particles about 25 microns in size.
While an improvement in filter efficiency on the suction side would be beneficial to an auto trans, that's been a very difficult engineering problem to solve because the flow needs are so high and the available space is so small.

Why are you getting the Oil Drain Plug? Does not the Dorman Pan come with one?
Thanks,
John

Hi Johncampanale.

Yes. The Dorman ATF pan does come with a facory plug but its a short / stubby design. The optional oil pan "Dorman 090-049CD Oil Drain Plug Pilot Point M12-1.25" buy is much longer and allows more grip. And, more thread lock glue on its longer threads.

Why would you put thread locker on an oil pan drain plug ?

Thread lock glue: Keep your bolts, screws and fasteners secure with Permatex(R) Loctite ThreadLocker Blue. ThreadLocker creates a protective seal that acts as a barrier against leakage, while securing the fastener assembly in place so it doesn't come loose. This removable thread sealant is ideal for use with 1/4-inch to 3/4-inch fasteners.

It isn't the threads that seal the pan & bolt, it is the gasket.
