We have a 2013 Town & country Limited with 430N RHB headunit. I wish we could just pull it upgrade to a newer unit but the kids love being able to watch movies. We were still running our 2013 map and had upgraded from the blue to black uConnect screen at some poin, v 4. I was messing with sideloading maps and backdated the mygig to v33.01.23. I spent many hours trying to follow all these different guides (thankfully Jeeps had these units as well) and Garmin’s terrible documentation. These were app performed with 4, 8, and 32gb thumb drives formatted every time to FAT32.

Started here:

1.Update the uconnect software. This is the Bluetooth/handsfree.
2. Updated mygig to 50.01.01. Little did I know that this also upgraded my software version to 5.11 (I think, maybe 5.09). I spent a few hours trying to find a v5 update.
3. Go to Nav->Settings->Map->the lines in the left->Update. Insert blank thumb drive into head unit. Let it write the information. Download Garmin Explorer to your computer. It should discover the thumb drive and recommend an update to 5.19. I could not get this to work before upgrading to 5.09.
4. Once 5.19 is installed. Do the same procedure as Step 3 to get software version 7.11.
5. Load the new map as a supplemental map image called gmapsupp.img. You will lose your intersection views doing it this way. I got my 2023 map from total navi.

Ended here with the 2023 map showing:

Have patience. Some times these things can take 10-20 minutes.
Particularly this screen:

“PND did not update!” typically means you don’t have new enough software/firmware to be compatible with what you are trying to do.

I did have 5.11 fail to install and seemingly lock my head unit into the Garmin splash screen. It could have been me not having patience. I turned the HU off. Went into the management menu by holding down "Radio", "Media", & "Menu." I was then able to force it to load the PND.
Video where I found this: (35) How to find the Hidden Menu on Uconnect 430n - YouTube

I also had to freeze up one time trying to read a thumb drive. A quick power cycle didn’t fix it. I had to turn the car off, open/close the door, and let it sit for 5-10 minutes to let it go to sleep.

Hi everyone
I tried to update mygig RHB to 33.01.23 , after update all things seem ok , after 2-3 days I decided to listen music from USB , the radio went on reading status and nothing happened , I found the USB port doesn't work and Hard disk is empty and doesn't work and show data too , all other things work fine ( nav , radio, AV prt , Cd player)
What do you think I should do?

So a linked issue, Ive tried to fit a HFM and an RHB HU, with an autodimming mirror. Ive hooked everything up with a harness and the mirror has power, but the HFM doesnt seem to be starting up or communicating. Ive set HFM as "set" in alfa obd under the BCM, but when I start it up there is no beep or anything.

Does anyone know:
  • do the HFM's fail regularly?
  • is there anything I might have missed trying to activate everything?

Ive also fitted a sat aerial(didnt have one on my base model) and gope to set up Nav maps at some pt. On the head unit the Nav appears to work but Ive not loaded any maps yet.

Grateful for any steers on the HFM; Im wondering whether to just try another one from the breakers?

Thanks Nick

looks to be high speed as this site shows that 68104904 fits these vehicles

So i pulled a later module from a 2015 T&C yesterday which was a later SW and HW build but when I fire up my Head Unit and try the phone I get "Uconnect phone not available".
Im wondering if its something Ive not enabled using the alfa OBD software.

Has anyone fitted one of these successfully and then activated it themselves? If so is it possible to get a check list of the Alfa OBD steps that are needed.

Sorry in advance for the possibly non-tech savvy questions

Go to body computer in alfaOBD and red codes, then clear the codes. If the code "lost communication with HFM" comes up, you know there's an issue with the power or CAN lines.

Did you connect the harness correctly above the steering shaft, and did you attach the ground? If your van already had a backup camera, overhead screen(s), or dvd player you will already have 4 connectors above the steering shaft, you could have connected the wrong connectors and I see this very often.

Thanks Michael, I'll try and work through it all tomorrow. My van didnt have the reversing camera or overhead screens in the cabin! Srill Im windering if Ive connected something wrong?

Mine lost the speed readout, ability to know you're always on a road... I need to fix it somehow. The supplemental map was not a good idea.

I finally got my 2010 T&C radio (an RHB430N from a jeep) updated to the 2026.10 maps! It took a little over an hour to do, but finally the GPS is useful again because there has been soooo much new development in my area. It's not hard you just have to get the steps right (which was frustrating and took some time to figure out).

@jeffjs - I'm glad to hear that you got your maps updated and hope that you can get your mics figured out.
I've got a 2013 T&C with an RHB430N. I've been able to update to 7.11 via flash drive. I've downloaded the file from NaviTotal dot com.
I extracted the file, renamed it GMAPSUPP.IMG and dropped it onto the flash drive in a folder named "Garmin". I plugged it into the head unit USB to update and it has been sitting on
"Please wait....
Reading Files..."
for nearly two hours now with no change. Any idea, by what was successful for you, what I'm doing wrong or how I can get my maps updated? Thanks in advance!

the hands free module has only 2 connectors that are used
1) is a 22 pin with 2 11 pin rows
that connector has 12 wires
battery power
ground
can IHS Hi(+)
can IHS lo(-)
5 wires that go the the dual amplified microphones in the rear view mirror
3 wires that go to the 10 pin on back of radio for left and right and common audio

the other is just a cable to the external usb port

no what enters the 10 pin on an RER/RHR are the 5 wires that need to go to the 22 pin on the uconnect module

then 3 new wires carry sound output (not microphone input) from uconnect module to the 10 pin on the RHB/RBZ head unit

this is because the RER had the uconnect module built into the head unit

on the RER the 10 pin radio connector is wired like this

So I have this kit. I am assuming I can just plug the 22 pin male in the dash to this included harness, then the other end into my radio. Then plug the connector with the longer wire into the uconnect module. I still think I need to figure out the mic wiring from the mirror. But effectively I am replicating what a jeep system has.

that kit plugs intween the radio 22 pin and the radio 22 pin harness connector to pick up the can ihs l o and hi and the bat and ground

you also remove current radio 10 pin and add plug in one in that kit

then the more rectangular 22 pin goes into uconnect module

down side is it changes to a velcro on single microphone instead of the oem rear view mirror dual microphone set up
