Air conditioner blowing hot air

282 Views 8 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  kvzeyde
My 2008 T&C Limited has the fancy heating/air conditioning unit. There are individual controls for the driver and the passenger as well as for the rear area. Until today, all was well.
Now today the vents for the passenger in front are blowing hot air regardless of what temperature I set. The drivers side in front and the rear vents blow cold air.
Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks.

I’d put an AC pressure gauge on the system to see if your refrigerant is low. Assuming it is, I’d put fluorescent dye in the refrigerant as I was recharging the system.

If the system loses the dyed refrigerant before next summer, check for leaks with a dye detector flashlight so you can figure out what part(s) need replaced to get your AC working properly again.

Or throw money at it and pay someone to do all of that for you.
Check rear ac valve area under rear of van. Very common leak spot on these vans. Replace or install a block off kit and have front ac only after a recharge.

System is mixed up. Happens sometimes.
You need to unplug battery for a minute. Turn HVAC off. Then plug it back (the battery). Turn on HVAC. It should reset and work. Had the trouble a few times on my old 2013 and this trick worked everytime. First time I tried, I had trouble believing :).
Good luck.

Might be worth it to try again... At least it is not expensive :)
Try put all the control on hot air max. Turn of van. Unplug battery for few minutes. Plug back. Start van. hot air should be blowing. Turn control to cold air (all zones). Turn off van. Unplug battery few minutes. Plug back. Start again ... Repeat the process. If that trick don't work, you'll have to change door actuator. I remember seeing a post here on how to do it few years ago.
Again, best of luck :)

Should not be refrigerant since it blows cold everywhere else except on passenger side. I would think that low refrigerant would be felt in more then one zone.

Yeah…agree. I was reading too quick and garbage logic on my part. Thanks for reorienting things to be more correct. 👍
Problem fixed. I took it in to the shop and they put in a new passenger side blend door actuator.

A.C. / heating system works fine now.

:)
