For some reason when I turn on the headlights the brake lights stay on. When the headlights are off the brake lights go on/off as normal. All the other lights work fine (turn signals, etc.) except the passenger backup light which I need to check the bulb. Could a bad bulb be causing this? Thanks in advance for any suggestions to try.

You either have the wrong bulbs in the sockets for the running lights, or there is a ground problem in the rear lights. The power for the tail lights must be feeding through the stop filaments for some reason.

It's a 2000 Grand Caravan 3.8L . I can check the bulbs tonight when I get home. How can I tell if I have the right bulbs in the right sockets? I did notice that on the drivers side the taillight's top bulb is much brighter than any of the others.

It's in your manual under light bulbs.

From the FSM:

EXTERIOR LAMP BULBS

CAUTION: Do not use bulbs that have a higher candle
power than the bulb listed in the Bulb Application
Table. Damage to lamp can result.
Do not touch halogen bulbs with fingers or other
possibly oily surfaces. Bulb life will be reduced.

If a halogen bulb is contaminated with oil, clean
bulb with denatured alcohol or ammonia based solvent.

Problem resolved. It appears the the burned out backup light on the passenger side was causing this problem. Replaced the bulb and all ist well. Thanks for all the ideas and help.
