I am in need of some information in regards to ECM swap. I've searched the forum and have concluded that swapping out the ECM with a used one should work, as long as the donor ECM is a same year with a same engine size.
The other day, I found a donor vehicle from a local junk yard to swap out the ECM. This donor vehicle was a same year with the same engine size and even a same option package (LXi). I took the ECM ou tof my minivan and the part number matches, so wend ahead and swap the ECM. Well, the swapping ECM did not work. After the swap, the minivan starts but engine dies right away. I try starting it few time and same thing. After few time (4 times?) of this, turning key did not even turn over. I swap the ECM back and back to normal. But now I know the swapping with a used ECM does not work. There is a chance that the ECM I got from a junk yard is a problematic to start with.... I am willing to try another one the next time same year/option minivan comes to the junk yard.
Has anyone had a success in swapping out the ECM with a used one? Or may be a programming is required.
I am in process of trying to get CEL off from my 2001 T&C LXi. The code comes up is: "P0601 Control Module Read Only Memory (ROM)". The minivan is running without any problem whatsoever. Even the MPG is not affected. I just have to get the CEL light off before the emission test in March of next year.
