Gears change randomly

yesturday i was driving my car and all of a sudden on the dash the gear changes were going all over the place even though it was in drive,,,it also tries to change gears and locks up ,the gear lights on dash go out after a while but only happens when auto trans heats gears go up and down all on there own any ideas ?

can this also cause car to want to go into reverse,park and neutral ,,this is whats showing on the dashboard gears
