2013 DGC SE+
And so it is, I ran low on headlight fluid. I only have a centimeter of liquid remaining at the bottom of my driver's side headlight....
Jokes aside, one of my headlight is now leaking taking on water. So I decided to order 2 new ones as the other one is also original and starts to fade.
I have regular Halogen lights. HID would be nice but wayyyy too expensive (near 3000 $CAD for new ones) so I do not consider them.
I had 4 options:
1- Get no brand aftermarket. Pro: only 65 $ Cad each. Cons: bad reviews (headlight brightness) and may last only a few seasons before fading again. Not interested.
2- Get a TYC set. Pro: lifetime warranty, reputable aftermarket brand, better built then most aftermarket headlights, price slightly under 100 $CAD each. Cons: lifetime warranty does not cover fading (useless then...) and brightness not as good as OEM according to several test and studies.
3- Get used OEM. Pro: a lot cheaper then buying new, same performance as it is the same part. Cons: more expensive then previous options, quality is a gamble as they are used, might not last as they already were exposed to UV for many years.
4- Buy new OEM Mopar headlights. Pro: OEM performance, as designed by the Chrysler engineers. Cons: Price... Between 500 and 600 $CAD with taxes each when delivered home.
Part numbers:
Right : 5113336AC
Left : 5113337AC
However....
I found on Rock Auto and in a few dealers significantly cheaper headlights branded Mopar with a different part number. Same warranty. Not much information on the internet.
Here is the parts number:
Right : 2AME13336A
Left : 2AME13337A
Why is that you might ask?
I called the dealer with those part numbers. He told me that parts these types of parts numbers were a second line that Stelantis made due to supply chain issue and pressure from aftermarket parts prices. He told me that they had to have the same performance requirements as the regular production line. What little information on the internet I was able to find seems to match what he said. As for the manufacturer, the company is a major one in the headlight industry and is called Magneti Marelli. For all I know, the OEM "expensive" ones might be made by the same company in a different plant. This seems a lot like what GM does between OEM GM parts and AC Delco Gold parts (same parts, different assembly lines).
The price for each is at this time around 150 $CAD each.
It seems like a logical choice for me.
Any opinion?
