Hi,

I have a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country and have figured out how to change the front wipers pretty easily. I also purchased a replacement blade and assembly for the rear wiper but cannot figure out how to release the existing blade and assembly. The manual wasn't really any help.

Would someone mind providing me with some instructions? I did try to search the forums and Google it, but was not having any luck finding detailed instructions.

Thanks,

Shawn.

Well, I don't know if this is any help, but I just bought a new blade, not the refill, since you can buy just one. It should be pretty easy to figure out.

So the only thing that can be replaced is the rubber blade itself? I was trying to replace the blade and assemble with the 20" Rainx model. Is this possible? Like I said the front wipers were easy, but it's unclear to me how to do this on the rear.

I went to Autozone to get them to help me replace the rear wiper blade, and I was told they sold me the wrong blade for my van. The sales rep went on to say they no longer carry the blade for the 2008 Chrysler Town and Country, that they were getting too many lawsuits due to customers cutting their hand while replacing the blade. So the replacement is simply a blade refill which Autozone no longer carries.

Can anyone give me an alternate source for ordering replacement blades?

Thank you,

Shawn.

Try a different auto parts store. Not a big chain, but a smaller place where they can special order. When I bought a refill for my Nissan at my local mom-and-pop, they mentioned they could get a blade. It's a similar design to the 08's--it's a slick looking blade that looks very "integrated" with the arm.

At the time I just needed a refill, so I did not buy it.

Try rockauto.com too, they might have it.

I had the same problem with my 06 T&C. The mechanic I went to used a socket wrench and took off the nut on the wiper blade post, tapped the arm off the post on the van (might need some WD-40 or whatever to loosen it), replaced the wiper blade and reinstalled it. I looked at my new 08 T&C and it looks the same. Maybe this will help.....

to replace rear wiper blade, you need to lift wiper arm then push the wiper blade towards the body of the van. The wiper blade is just clipped in to the arm instead of being hooked in like the old style of blades.

I had seen other questions about the rear wiper. I couldn't figure out how to get the blade off. I finally bought a blade that had an insert that would fit in my blade and put that in. After I read your instructions I went out and pushed the blade off the arm. Thank you very much.

the correct replacement is the TRICO EXACT FIT 16E

Advance Auto Parts carries the right blade it's the TRICO EXACT FIT 16E (package says "rear wiper" on it). It was a simple change once unrealized how to get old one out. You CAREFULLY push entire blade towards glass to disengage the built in pin. New blade snaps right into the the arm. RAIN X blades do NOT have the correct adapters for this wiper.

First in my attempt to remove the wiper blade the blade broke. No going back now. After several attempts to install the Rain-x replacement I decided to remove the wiper arm. I needed a two arm gear puller to do the job. The blade is an interference fit by Chrysler. There is a lot of pressure in the taper shaft fitting. I then tried to assemble the Rain-x blade to the plastic arm. Snap, snap the plastic arm pins are broken. I now need a new arm. The Rain-x blade is not a correct replacement. The Chrysler plastic arm 68028437AA is discontinued and replaced by 68078306AA Arm, Wiper-Rear, (metal) and 55077097AC Cover, Rear, Wiper. The parts are not cheap from Chrysler and are made by Dorman. The local parts store had the Dorman (Ever Clear) 42893 Wiper Arm ($20.94) and a 2 pack set of 49460 Help Wiper Arm Cover ($4.99). I used a little liquid Teflon on the spline to ease the interference fit and tightened the 13mm socket wrench more then I was comfortable with. I clipped a standard 16” blade to the new wiper arm. Problem solved. Thank you Chrysler for making a wiper replacement so fast simple and in expensive. PS if you don't have a two arm gear puller you could use a Dremel grinder to break the old plastic wiper spline.

Daddy will fix it, Dorman lists the part number for that wiper arm for the 01-07 Chrysler/Dodge minivans. Did it work on the '08-'16 vans for the rear windshield? Also, the cover number you listed looks like it is for Toyota models. Can you confirm this was a viable repair on a 5th generation van?

I ended up ordering the metal dorman wiper arm shown for our 2009 Chrysler Town and Country from the Rockauto website; different part number from above listed number, the one for the 5th generation should be a #42783. With the puller, and a 16" blade, it came to about $60, and it comes with the cap for the nut.
