Hi - I just picked up my 3rd Caravan - a 2010 Grand Caravan SE to replace my "lightly used" 345K miles 2007 Grand Caravan C/V. When I picked it up, the factory hubcaps were in the back. The lugnuts on the van are the open ended ones similar to the 092 top ones in the picture. Pretty sure something is off there, since with the hubcaps on, you would still be able to see the end of the lug studs. So, getting on a Mopar parts site 3 options were given for replacements. The 092's at the top make no sense - same as what I have. In the middle are the 672's, which appear to have a crimped-on cover and a step - possibly to retain the little clips in 2 of the lug holes in the hubcaps. At the bottom are the 738's like my alloy wheels have - a wide taper at the base and probably a crimped on stainless cover.
What I'm guessing is, the van started out with the 738's and the covers got damaged and removed.
Since I'm pretty sure someone on here has had one of these vans with the same hubcaps (or a Journey - same hubcaps), can you tell me which lugs were originally on your van, so I can decide what I need to buy? I would like to replace them with the 1-piece style I used on my C/V, if those are correct for using with the hubcaps too.
Thanks.

I would say the 672’s are for aluminum wheels and the other two are for steel wheels and are interchangeable.

The 672's are designed for the wheel cover and are intended to hold the wheel cover in place. The 2 lugs that line up with the wheel cover openings with the clips are used to first secure the wheels. The wheel cover is popped in place and the remaining 3 lugs are set in place. Note the second lip on the lug will rest on the lip on the wheel cover to hold it securely in place. Keeps a $70 wheel cover from rolling away after hitting a pothole.

This is the correct answer!

This is kinda the answer I expected, and what I thought the 2 clips in 2 of the openings were intended to do. Thanks for the replies.

The pics of the Dorman 611-181's I was finding showed them as a 2-piece capped nut. I found some 1-piece chrome ones on E-bay for $50 shipped. Figured I'd take my chances of chipped chrome against the cap being pulled off. Thanks again.

WOW! I have never had wheel covers that were that complicated. :)

I have used chromed lugnuts before. They don't like impact wrenches or salt much. Didn't meet my expectations.
Stainless steel caps don't like impact wrenches. They don't rust.
All stainless works best, IMO.

I thought about buying all stainless lug nuts, but I couldn't justify the extra cost at this time. After I sort out a few mechanical issues I would like to find a set of alloy wheels for it. And it figures they changed the bolt pattern starting 2008, so my alloys from my 2007 won't swap over.

The chrome lug nuts will look good in the summer, but rust with road salt. If you're getting alloys, I'd invest in solid chrome-plated lug nuts for those instead. Keep the steel rims and hubcaps for winter tires.

My winter lug nut go-to has been the GM 12x1.5 lug nuts with external threads for plastic caps that thread on over the top. Some caps are just for looks and you can get them in black, gray, or even chromed. Some have a stepped lip for holding plastic wheel covers on, which would be ideal for those wheels. Sometimes GM even used plastic covers with stainless steel caps, to hold chrome center caps onto their chrome premium alloy wheels. I pick up all of this stuff at the U-Pull-It yard.

I still have the OE stainless steel capped lugnuts on my 2016 DGC with 175,000 kms / 109,000 miles on it, driven daily for the most part, rain or shine, salt or no salt.
I don't use winter wheels so tires get installed twice a year, winter / summer. That's a lot of impact wrenching They are starting to show the effects of that (fit). Chrome plated nuts don't stand up nearly as well to the impact wrenches, in my experience. The dinging of the chrome from the impact wrenches allows the steel beneath to rust. Impact wrenches are destructive to whatever is used.

From: Chrome vs Stainless Steel.
Summary

The torque/tension tests show that the stainless steel capped wheel nuts clearly exhibit a distinct advantage over chrome plated wheel nuts in all but one application, that of steel wheels. Chrome plated wheel nuts installed on steel wheels showed marginally better performance. SAE J2316 requirements were met in all of the stainless steel capped wheel nut tests, whereas chrome plated wheel nuts failed in one of the three categories.

Corrosion introduced during torque/tension testing affected both wheel nut types similarly. The lowest clamp load recordings of all the tests were with chrome plated wheel nuts on aluminum wheels. This may be of concern, depending on specific vehicle application. The corrosion/ damage test showed a distinct advantage with stainless steel capped wheel nuts. Though chrome plating does not rust, the carbon steel nut that is covered does. Damage to the plating, typically from wrenching, permits corrosion of the carbon steel to occur. This corrosion is accelerated by time and additional wrenching, continuing to consume the carbon steel under the plating. Stainless steel on the other hand is resistant to corrosion. The corrosion that does occur is significantly less and appears to be limited in nature. In addition, the sacrificial nature of the zinc plating protects the carbon steel nut in the stainless steel capped assembly.

In addition to the assembly and corrosion advantaged of stainless steel capped wheel nuts, the manufacture and use of stainless steel capped wheel nuts presents fewer hazards to the environment than chrome plated wheel nuts. This certainly has no minor impact on the cost of producing chrome plated wheel nuts stainless steel capped wheel nuts are and will continue to be the lower cost decorative wheel nut choice.

Stainless steel capped wheel nuts outperform chrome plated wheel nuts in torque/tension characteristics and corrosion resistance. The unique design of the stainless steel capped wheel nut is durable and exceeds the life of the vehicle.
I got some black nuts for my Jeep about a year back. They are rusting.

Gorilla may have the answer.

My C/V uses those 738's and that cover, they do swell though, I just got a box of 50 from some tire wholesaler I saw the link (on here), they are solid (and heavy), but waiting for spring to put them on. price was about 75$ for 50 if I remember correctly, I now have lug nuts for life...

Ordered these and were shipped USPS. Although the delivery date was scheduled for the 20th, as usual - they are "in transit, arriving late" and have been shown as being in Pittsburg since the 19th. I'm going to start telling vendors that I will not buy from them if they insist on USPS shipping - I have had issues with over 1/3 of the items that have been shipped to me through them.

Yes, ups is bad lately, I prefer FedEx around here, but you rarely get the option to pick. I suspect this will get worse going forward. It is not unusual for me to get "next day" delivery from amazon after a week or more.
