So you cleared the codes and then checked? Myself, I would have checked the codes, written them down, and then cleared them to see what came back...

P1684 is just a 'heads up' that the battery was disconnected. It does not set a [CEL]

Do you have a [CEL] "check engine light" currently illuminated?

That sucks that it didn't code. Kinda tough to xshoot from my armchair without having the codes or having the van in my driveway/shop.

I still do not know year make model mileage
do not know why you did a tune up
if your injector harness was already melted and previously repaired
if the CEL was illuminated prior to the 'tune up'
If a shop did this 'tune up' or if it was DIY by you

2002 Town And Country LX with 99,900 miles. The reason for the tuneup was while driving to NYC got a check engine light for cyl #5 misfire so instead of chasing the exact reason for the misfire I just changed all parts that could/would be involved in a misfire like any normal person would do.

In the vicinity of the cross over pipe is where the injector harness melt down occurs. In later years, after this be came an issue, Mopar moved the wiring away from the crossover pipe.

Any chance you got the ignition wires on wrong?

NOTE:
While the front three wires go 1:1 left to right across the front of the engine, that the three in the back are shuffled.'

Verify that the three wires in the back are going to the correct cylinders as pictured above.
There is also (usually) the cylinder number is embossed on the coil body for each of the high voltage post.

Please let us know when you finally get your vehicle repaired. I can't wait to hear that you got her running and what it was.
Cheers!

Yeah, roger that, I forgot.

It was running good, then it suddenly picked up a misfire.
You did the tune-up and it ran good again for five days and then jumped back to the misfire...
sorry

there is another thread going on called
06 3.3 misfire
Neil is in Panama and his is similar in nature to your situation.

The other guys are not jumping in here with suggestions, likely because you revived an old thread, and like me, they are not going to read all 14 pages to know what you already read about....

FROM THAT THREAD: atoman said (and he is a good one to listen too)
Will it misfire as before if you unplug the front O2 sensor? (and cause it to run "open loop" - pre-set fuel map instead of rich/lean feedback from sensor)
So try to disconnect (temporarily for testing only) the upstream o2 sensor and see if it makes a difference in how it runs.

Myself, I am not sure what a smooth running in 'OpenLoop' would point to, but read that thread and learn where it is going.

Update I took my van to the mechanic and he put the noid test light on the injector harness where the problem. In fact he said as I was cranking the engine he could see the other injectors spraying but not number 3. It is confirmed by the mechanic that I have a bad ground on injector 3 causing it to not receive pulse. So if anyone knows where I could find an injector harness cheap please pm me with info.

Thanks for the update.
I don't remember if i said this already but all the injectors are jumper connected to a common power wire in parallel and then the individual injectors are grounded by the PCM (or ECM) to make them fore on time and duration.

The harness is real easy to test and to take apart / repair as depicted in this very thread. Of the 9 pin connector by the exhaust manifold, 6 of those pins are the injector grounds, 1 of the pins is common injector power, two of the pins are used for the manifold pressure sensor, and the 9th pin is unused. So testing the harness is real straight forward with a (dmm) digital multimeter set to measure continuity or ohms (resistance) OR even just a test light.

As was probably stated in this thread above, sometimes the short circuited harness will cause a dead driver in the PCM / ECM and will warrant replacing the ECM too, but you need to test the harness for continuity before installing a new computer or risk damaging the new computer.

Hi,

Our ride:
2004 Chrysler T&C Limited
3.8L engine
301000 miles

Issue:
Like to let you know that I got P0202 and P0302 misfire codes with strong fuel smell when engine started misfiring.
(P0202, P0302, misfire, engine run rough, fuel smell)

Fixes:
1. Replaced cyl #2 injector just for curiosity and checked harness. Misfiring continued.

2. Pulled intake out again and checked injector wire harness. It was laying top of exhaust manifold. Found one wire insulator worn out on tiny spot. Re-insulated that and zip tied wire harness to the bracket I believe it has been connected. So far no misfire codes anymore.

I wasn’t so lucky changed the harness now thinking it maybe computer as everything on my 02’ Town and country is factory original from 2002. And I just hit 100,000 miles as of a week and a half ago. Sucks trying to track down problems on these vehicles.

I mean this is my first ever minivan have only dealt with sports cars all my life and have 3 children. This one seems to have me stomped. I’m going with vans age not miles as Mustangs computers wear away with age I’d assume the same for the van.
