I just discovered this form after a near disaster involving my beloved 2002 town and country limited edition van. The first time I drove it after two nights of below 0 temperatures billows of steam poured out from around the hood as I remembered that I forgotten to check the antifreeze after having added water last summer. This is my forth van ( 1985,1995, 1999 and now 2002). This one is my favorite by far. Thankfully the only thing that froze and cracked was the thermostat housing which spewed water directly onto the hot manifold causing the clouds of steam. $146 repair at the local shop and she's good as new.

This is a 21 year old van that has 120K and was garage kept until I bought it with 90K

Welcome to the forum!

If you plan to keep the van for a handful of years and haven't done so already for the housing replacement, a coolant flush and refill of either premixed coolant or a proper 50/50 mixture of concentrate and distilled water would be great to prevent another crack elsewhere in the cooling system.

And i assume you mean 0 degrees Fahrenheit coming from the states, (0F is -18C, 0C is 32F). Either way, welcome to the forum and welcome to winter!

2002 was a good year, based on my 2002 DGC, sold in 2018, with many OE parts still functioning (water pump, radiator, front struts, ac, etc.).

Yes, welcome to the Forum and don't let your van suffer from frost bite ever again. :)

The thermostat housing cracked??!! That part is STEEL, unless it was replaced with a plastic one. I would think the aluminum would crack first. I really hope that's the only thing that broke.
