It is a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan with 226,000 miles on it. I replaced the oil pressure sending unit with a new MOPAR unit. The light still comes on at idle and goes out when the vehicle accelerates.
I assume the next step is to pull the sensor and attach an oil pressure gauge. What readings should I see?
Has anyone had these symptoms, and if you resolved the problem, how did you do it? I have been pretty consistent with maintenance including oil and filter changes. Not sure if this is an indicator that the engine is not long for this world.
Certainly there's no reason to pay more for a product than you have to, but the cost of motor oil is way down in the dust/noise, compared to all the other costs related to driving a car.
I've been using Wally World's Supertech oil, in both the dino and synthetic versions, in all my vehicles for many years now. I haven't seen a reason to use any of the higher priced brands.
You are correct when it comes to our vans. The engines have an 'easy life'.😇
Some makers of performance cars specify lightweight oil (0W-20 or 5W-20) with 'extra ingredients' like Titanium that are intended to protect the engine better at high RPMs or stressful use (like trailer towing or racetrack sessions). Some of these 'bespoke lubricants' even contain UV leak indicators in them.
