My overhead console doesn't have any lighting at all for the buttons. This is a real pain when I pull up at night and try to hit one of the garage opener buttons.

I bought the van used. Do I have something broken or do they all not have any lighting? Is there a "premium" version of the overhead console that has lit buttons? Thanks for any info.

My 2005 has the button icons illuminated. Hopefully someone with a 2004 will chime in.

2003 w/EVIC/Homelink. All buttons have illumination.

So... 2003 are lighted, as are 2005, I don't figure they wouldn't be lighted in 04...

I figured it out. I took the overhead console apart. The switch module (I have a single-row switch, because I don't have power sliders) comes apart and inside there is a single blue light bulb and a prism that distributes the light to the 5 buttons. The blue bulb looks like an LED but is not. It's an ordinary incandescent (tiny) bulb with a blue rubber sleeve.

The bulb is soldered to the circuit board. Mine is burned out. I will try replacing it with an LED and report the results.

Done.

Couldn't find a side-firing 12V LED of the correct size, but I found the exact light bulb as the original. Radio Shack 272-1092. You get 2 for $1.79. You have to solder it in and replace the blue sock.

Just got done fixing my overhead lighting. I disassembled and measured the bulbs and then bought some LEDs from Amazon that had built-in resistors and would run directly on 12v. Since the old bulbs had a blue cover over them, I bought blue LEDs. I wish I would have purchased green or white. See photo below.

Hardest part was figuring out polarity. On the garage door opener buttons, one solder pad is obviously connected to a ground plane on the board. This pad is for the short LED lead or the cathode.

On the sliding door switches, if I remember correctly, the long lead (anode) is orientated so it is nearest the button that disables the doors.

What I did was fix the garage door buttons first and then plug everything in and turn on the lights. Then I held the LED against the solder pads until it came on and then I noted the orientation so I could solder it in the same direction.

Hope this helps somebody else. Oh, and I have 48 extra LEDs so message me if you want me to provide a few to you.

Looks nice to me, is the blue as bright as you would like? I could use 2 of these, if you have any left. Also is there back lighting in the driver door controls for the door lock, window, etc. thanks

hossross,

Yes, I still have some LEDs and the brightness is perfect. PM me your mailing address and I'll stick a couple in an envelope for you.

I'll have to look at the door tomorrow to see if those on the door are backlit. I generally do those by feel without any issue so I'm just not sure.
