I am trying to change the rear pads and rotors on my 2006 GCV and the rear passenger rotor is not coming off. I have removed the caliper but I have not tried releasing any tension that may be caused by the emergency brake. Does anyone know if this could be the cause or if I just need some more brute force/heat to get it off?

Yes it could be the shoes for the emergency brake causing the rotor to stick.

You should try to adjust the star wheel from the back by removing the rubber plug that covers that hole and using a small.flat head screwdriver. To retract the shoes.

Here's a video which shows the location of the slot. You need a very small flat head screwdriver to get access.

Watch the video. The guy is saying he used a screw driver to loosen the emergency brake cable lever arm, then it freed up the rear rotor. You may need a helper to get it off.

I had this same issue earlier this year, but on the drivers side. I had to use a sledgehammer to get it off. Took like 30 minutes to get it off. The emergency brake shoes wasn't the issue.

Was it rusted onto the hub?

I think it was. I was so glade to get it off, I didn't think to look. I used a little anti-seize on the non brake pad metal surfaces to prevent the metals from rusting together.

Yes it's always good to put anti seize or all purpose grease on the hubs. I'm going to try and remove the rotors on my 2015 to do that before the rotors rust onto the hubs. I'd like to avoid that issue 4 to 5 years from now.
