Replace Headunit and Keep Rear Entertainment Screen?

I have a 2014 Dodge Caravan Crew. So I have the two rear screens with the BluRay on the bottom and DVD in the Uconnect headunit.

I want to replace that with an aftermarket Android Headunit (mainly for Android Auto) and I want to still be able to play movies for the kids with VES in the back.

I found this video where someone got it working.

Does anyone know how that did that? Looking closely it looks like the rear screens are playing an HDMI input. And the rear screens are navigating the menus with the remote. I thought that would be disabled if they disconnected the stock Uconnect Headunit.

You might ask the crew at crutchfield.com. Not the best prices, but I’ve always appreciated their customer service and super easy to follow instructions. I did go back and forth with them some time ago for similar reasons and chose to ultimately not spend the dough right now.

I solved the problem in our T&C limited by buying a 2013 Pacifica. I will be very interested if you figure it out as our 13 T&C might be replacing my S6 as a daily driver. 😥
