Hi, I’m needing some help, I have 01 DGC with 167,000 made in 🇨🇦 Plant…I never changed my plugs until 2020 my car didn’t have any issues but tho I better before it does..

I really didn’t know much about plugs was looking cheapest way.. 2020 first set I got was NKG V power and car quest wires, They didn’t carry Mopar at advanced.online was to high…

Friend of friend put them in it didn’t run like the old plugs and wires, I read some where champions was OE so Covid hit , when thing got better they were under lifetime warranty, I took them and ask to exchange they said well NKG I got we’re nicked , she claimed I needed platinum So I got the double platinum champion and exchange the car quest wires bcz 2 of them socket broke came detached hope u know what I mean.. so I got NKG wires , I tho might be better wire… since other came apart and these were pre gap supposedly…

so I had family member put them in and now it worst off then the first set change my car acts to crank but not start and when it does it misfires, backfires, and when let off the gas it stalls, strange noise from muffler area like it clogged sound the muffler is new I got walker muffler….

I replaced the ignition coil it had code of #2 and #3 of coil …. before the second set of plugs n wires, I got… I also had code for MAP and I changed that but nothing all before the 2 set.. I can’t get it stay started to get it to advance to check codes again, I heard u have to reset it I try keep battery unplug and don’t erase them..

Sorry on long post- I wanted to explain.. my question is what could cause it to be worst now? I did buy a gap gauge and the plugs are off , I’m not sure how many I only took one off and it looks like 46-48 I read in here some are in 30s and I look on my hood and it says 50 so could this be why? Could it be wires?

I wished I kept my old Mopar wires they look ok i could try to see if that was issue.. they gone..

I’m lost I never been without a car in my life , old cars in past never stranded me like this dodge.. plz help any advice is appreciated.. Ik it something simple has to be.. I made sure my car maintenance

I replaced almost everything except the engine, fuel pump, fuel filter, struts, ball joints, control arms, catalytic converter, crank sensor and cam sensor, oh the resonator bcz the muffler man said it didn’t need to, how can u tell if one goes bad I never had one on car before.. that all I can think in case u all asked..

I appreciate any help.. thanks! I’m gonna post my pic of my plugs they won’t go in order so the 2 really black wet ones from NKGS and the 2 lighter are champions…

While the injector melted wiring is a known situation with our vans, and it certainly should be addressed whether it is making the van run rough or not (inspect / fix it either way, and move / protect it so it doesn't happen)

If I read your original post correctly, that your van was running fine, you changed the spark plugs because they were old, and after that it was not better, rather worse than before you changed them.

Am I correct? If so you (your friend) likely got something wrong.

Angelina, the spark plugs usually come pre-gapped (or at least very close to perfect) If you or your friend are wrestling so much to reinstall the back spark plugs that you are changing the spark plug gap and cracking the porcelain insulators, then you really need to either take it to a shop OR learn how to remove the windshield wiper cowling assembly so that you can work like a human.

Remove the windshield wipers???

Yep, that is what I USED TO THINK when they first told me about it.
Now that I know, I do not hesitate to remove the wiper cowling

-OR-

the other way to gain a lot of room to work at the back of the engine is to remove the intake plenum (the black plastic 6 leg octopus) atop of the engine. If you are going to remove the injector harness to inspect and repair (IRAN - Inspect, Repair As Needed) the injector harness, you will be removing the plenum to unplug the injector harness. That is when you can get your spark plugs PERFECT while the plenum is removed without removing the wiper cowling.

Dependable, good mechanical work is all about completing the work perfectly. Less than perfect is usually unreliable.

Also, if while you are install spark plugs, if one falls out of the tool or your hands and hits the concrete driveway, throw it away and install a new and undamaged one. Even though it may look like it is undamaged, it MAY have a hidden crack that you might not realize until it gets hot while running down the highway...

To post a video, I think that members put the video on YouTube or something like FlkR and then put a link in the thread

Angelina, a good way to check your spark plug wires is to fill a spray bottle with water, wait till it gets dark, start engine, and spray/mist the wires. Bad wires will put on a good electrical show, just like the Northern Lights!

You talking about the big long fuse box by the batt.. ? I forgot the name..
I believe that atoman provided the solution to your problem in the second post of this thread based upon the trouble codes you posted. Read the thread below. You can't just inspect it from the outside. The injector harness must be removed, opened up for inspection and repaired or replaced as needed. Also, as atoman stated, it is possible that your ECM (engine computer) may have been damaged but that can't be determined until the harness is in good shape. Don't waste time or money on anything else until the injector harness is addressed.

Hi valhallallalla, yes I understand what ur saying, I’m working on that too, since I finding plug cracked and need to check all others plugs too.. but the one gentlemen fabricgator asked me if I could get the codes off from inside my car by key turn , bcz advance auto codes might be different.. I forgot I had done one and had video.. so I was just sharing these codes to them…
some of the codes are diff then advance auto part store , like #2 injector is not on advance auto ob1 or 2 scan ..Idk which one they used..

yes, Ik the cover got to come off, pull the PSP too.. I hoping too my ECM not fried.. cause I was having my air bags and brake lights some other ones was lite up on dash I never had that before.. I read possible that ECM might be bad.. this happened right before my van starting to stall..it finally went away.. Idk..

I appreciate you and all that’s had posted to me.. thank u for ur reply!
Angelina, no you won't get shocked, as you're not touching the wires.

Now regarding getting shocked, I was once leaning over the fender, grabbed a wire, and got a pretty good shock thru the body part that was touching the fender first. Never did that again!
