My wife and I, are time owners of minivans and are looking at the possibility of buying an ultralite travel trailer, which gets us into the need for a tow vehicle. The trailer, with a full load would be about 9000 lbs / 4000 kg.

Given that we would be looking for a long wheel base 4 door pick up or SUV, what should we consider and 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive is a question. Also diesel or gas is obviously a live question. Would love to rear the opinions of this forum.

Thanks for any input and hopefully a lively discussion

Something that heavy (ultralite???), I'd be looking at a pickup with a diesel engine for torque, longevity and fuel mileage. Unless you are planning to go off-road into places not regularly traveled, or live in a severe winter climate area, I'd go with 2wd.

3/4 ton cummins diesel will do the job and still you can drive it every day and get 25mpg.

Long distance travel?

You may want to check e-bay and pickup a truck in texas.

Diesel without a doubt. Best choice would be a cummins in a ford chassis, but this is not a perfect world so I would say a cummins Ram pickup.
