Ok, we were headed to cub scouts with our boys one day when the check engine light turned on suddenly in our 2009 T&C. Well we parked it and when we came back and started it up it won’t come out of second gear. We went and had codes ran and p1745 comes up with no other codes except minor ones like abs sensor. We tried replacing the pressure switch and pressure control solenoid. That didn’t help. So we went and got another transmission and put it in and went and had the computer reprogrammed at the dealer. Long and behold we still can’t get it out of limp mode and it’s still throwing the same code!! ?? The guy at the dealership said that the transmission would not come up to temperature that it needed to be to do the relearn process. Anybody know what could be causing this problem?

Info for the dealer when erasing the code, they need to do more than just clearing the code.

Diagnostic trouble code P1745 is an information code set in the engine computer strictly as an information code.
There are separate diagnostic trouble codes in the transmission computer which must be read/diagnosed/repaired/cleared.
Unfortunately, basic code reader and many simple scanners are not capable of accessing the transmission computer therefore a manufacturer level scan tool will be necessary to diagnose this condition.

Additionally, In order to erase this DTC you must reset (erase) the VLP Shift Counter and the Output tooth counter which is a single procedure under Miscellaneous functions in the scan tool called “Clear Variable Line Pressure (VLP) counters”. Again, a manufacturer level scan tool will be necessary to perform this function.

Ok so after spending $120 at the dealer for there to be no fix... we took it to another shop (not the dealer) and when he checked the transmission with his scanner, it shows that the transmission thinks that it is -3 degrees outside, but it was 70 degrees. He said there’s miscommunication between the transmission and computer and it’s keeping it in “cold mode”. We’re going to check the wiring coming from the computer to the transmission to see if there’s any breaks or corrosion. My question is, if there was something wrong with the computer itself wouldn’t it throw another diagnostic code?

Measure between pins 22 and 23 on the trans electric connector, there should be about 11K ohms at room temp.

The PDF I have won't let me copy/paste so the best I could do is attach a screenshot which hopefully will show you what to measure for the temp sensor.

Are you sure mice didn't nibble on any wires? Check for damage along the entire harness.

A problem similar to yours... and bobby5832708's post: https://www.allpar.com/forums/threa.../threads/p0713-transmission-fluid-temperature-sensor-circuit-high-input.168469/

Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Circuit

... The ATF Temperature Sensor is part of the 62TE TRS (Transmission Range Sensor). It is a thermistor that is not normally serviced separately from the switch.
Usually these don't fail in service and P0713 may be from a wiring or connector terminal problem. It is important to determine this first before faulting the component.
Probe pins # 22 DG/Or and #23 DBu/DG in the solenoid pack/TRS connector with an ohmmeter. A 'high' fault would indicate an open circuit is possible.
Pins #1 and # 23 are grounds and should both have good continuity to each other and to ground.
Pin # 22 should terminate in the PCM connector C4-pin # 35 (follow the DG/Or wire). There has to be good continuity between these 2 points.

---------------------------

Now I finally found this stupid error.
The ground cable (Pin 23) from the Transmission Temperature (Range) Sensor was broken, directly at the output from the big Connector to the cable harness at the Transmission Solenoid Pack.
It wasn't easy to disassemble this connector, to remove the crimped pin, and solder on a new cable piece to that pin. But I did it.
Unbelievable that a cable in such a place can break off at all !

Change some tranny fluid! ATF+4. I got 140k on mine and have to change fluid all the time to keep the rebuilt tranny happy. I also use Lucas Transmission Fix and Lubegaard Red. I use a fluid removal tool and do it all topside. I use Torque (paid version) app with a cheap wifi/OBD to check trans temp. Also you need to buy a dipstick! Its very easy once you get these tools.

Cjmandy:

Do not use any additives, by doing so you are defeating the purpose (ATF+4).

Ok so for anyone wondering a solution , here’s the solution . You likely will need a trans overhaul or new trans with this code , but after installing a rebuilt or used trans this code will stay in the pcm and temp will read -3f and not allow a quick learn to be performed . You will need to go into clear variable line pressure counters under special tests , clear vlp 2-3 shift count and clear vlp open loop tooth count . Once these are cleared , mil light can be cleared , trans temp will come back online and 62te quick learn can now be performed .

same thing happened to mine, after taking the van to 2 different dealers recheck tranny and change the fluid still with the same code and unable to erase, I was told by my mechanic that he was 99% sure it was the PCM unable to communicate with Tranny. I bought a plug and play PCM and the problem is solved. You may want to check on thath....

Hello,
Not sure if this helps or not but I happened to have a similar issue happen to me. I had a problem with the van no start, so I swapped the relay in the fuse box next to battery to check function, van started but would not shift out of 2nd didn't throw any codes. Maybe bad relay causing your problem?

Note on relay: the relay has an overload trip that can reset itself, maybe thermal, so it may be difficult to troubleshoot. My relay would intermittent be inop would show functional on bench test then a few days later no start again. Bought a new relay replaced it and no more problems starting.
