The 3.8L in my 2008 (121k miles) has recently developed a tick at idle and under light acceleration. I thought it was a clogged lifter or similar, so I wanted to "clean" the top end. I've tried seafoam through the vacuum tube (not much smoke), seafoam in the engine oil 500 miles before a change, then changed the oil with cheap 10W-30 and a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil for about 500 miles, then put Valvoline MaxLife 10W-30 and the tick remains.
Here's a video of the tick from various angles at idle:
Any clue what I'm hearing? Maybe not a lifter at all? Any help is appreciated... have a long trip coming up and need to know if I need to abort, get it in to a shop before I go, or just turn up the radio.
Thanks in advance!
