Lifetime Maximum Care?

I am looking for the experience of others related to Lifetime Maximum Care... I haven't had any issues in the past with getting support on my Van (2013 T&C 232,000 miles). Now, I am in need of shocks in the rear, and the claim is being denied due to "wear and tear". It sounds like Lifetime Maximum Care is being handled differently than in the past. Any other experiences? I have called Customer Service myself (for the Warranty group, and Chrysler Cares), but as of now there doesn't seem to be any interest in helping with this repair.

I have it on our '14. Haven't had to use it at all. It was my understanding that wear items aren't included, like brakes and shocks.

That said, if you can do the work yourself, you can accomplish the job for roughly the same cost as the $100 warranty deductible.

Yeah - I just found my plan documentation, and I am pasting it below... Seems hard to claim "wear and tear" on something completely listed as covered...

COMPONENTS COVERED BY THE PLAN INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

SNIPPING OTHER AREAS*

REAR SUSPENSION: Rear Leaf Springs; Rear Coil Springs; Auxiliary Springs; Spring Interliner; Spring Bushing; Spring Shackle; U-Bolt Rear Spring; Spring Hanger; Axle Trac Bar; Lateral Link Arm; Shocks; Shock Mount Plate; Struts; Strut Mounting Plates; Strut Bushings; Rear Trailing Arm Assembly; Rear Torsion Arms; Rear Torsion Bars; Rear Stabilizer/Sway Bar; Rear Stabilizer/Sway Bar Link; Rear Stabilizer/Sway Bar Bushing; Rear Wheel Bearings.

There you go, it's in black and white.

Hmm, yeah. You've got an argument. Show that to them, and I believe they owe you shocks.

Hello Netpappy,

Thank you for tagging us hopefully we can provide more clarity into this concern. Dealers have the ability to perform testing to help determine if the damage is contributed by outside forces or normal wear. Your dealer would be in the best position to give insight on the testing and life expectancy on those components.

My Max care included replacing lost or defective key fobs. The dealer tried to tell me they weren't covered so I pulled out the terms and showed it to them. They covered it and we got new fobs. I don't think shocks are included in mine but I have the same paragraph quoted earlier.

I wouldn't blame Chrysler for saying that shocks are wear items, but your documentation clearly states they're covered, so are they still denying repair after showing said documentation?

#11 ·
The life expectancy on a component clearly listed on the lifetime warranty that has not been damaged in an accident or the like, is well, forever. When the cost of the repair exceeds the value of the vehicle then it's not covered, but clearly rear shock absorbers do not fall into that category.

Sorry, I didn't have time to get on this thread yesterday... Here is what I know so far - the service rep said that he had to submit the claim to Chrysler to get "approval" but didn't see any reason why they wouldn't cover the repair. He called back the next day and said they have denied the claim due to "wear and tear". I have called into the warranty center, and even spoke with a Supervisor to only receive the same story. I had an online chat session with @ChryslerCares who basically said it was listed as "wear and tear", and a twitter conversation provided the same result. I have filed a complaint with the Michigan Attorney General, and am prepared to take the necessary steps to initiate proceedings in Small Claims. I agree with @Sunvanse that the warranty is "forever" as long as I own it, and they don't want to exercise their buy-out clause. I am fine if they want to buy me out, but as of now they seem content to "strong arm" by saying it was wear and tear and therefore not covered. I think there are 3 reasonable solutions to this: Pay this claim and future claims according to the contract, refund the entire warranty cost because they have decided they really didn't mean "lifetime", or buy-out my contract and tell me to buzz off... Thanks for listening and the sanity check that I am not being unreasonable in what the expectations were for Lifetime Maximum Care.

Let them know you are taking your claim to small claims court. They will concede because the wording is in your favor.

Here is the wording from my specific contract...

"IMPORTANT! The maximum benefit amount should a covered component of the Vehicle fail will be THE TOTAL COST OF THE REPAIRS PER VISIT LESS THE DEDUCTIBLE, OR THE CASH VALUE OF THE VEHICLE, WHICHEVER IS LESS! The cash value of the Vehicle will be determined at the time of the covered repair and will be the average retail value as listed in the current NADA Used Car Pricing Guide. If at any time the repair costs for covered component(s) exceed the Vehicle’s cash value, your final Plan benefit will be our payment of the Vehicle’s cash value rather than the repair costs. Plan coverage and benefits will terminate automatically and immediately pursuant to this provision and we will have no further obligations of any kind in respect to the terminated Plan."

I'm curious, what is the NADA price for your 232,000 mile van, which is also based on condition, location and color.

There may be an arbitration clause in your max care warranty, start the process. The warranty seems pretty black-and-white.

Can you try a different dealership? You may have some luck as not all dealerships are as good as the one we have next to us.

I know you are all waiting for the latest update... I finally spoke with my Service Advisor at the Dealership today, and he confirmed they did not report it as wear and tear. So, my next course of action is to have them perform the repair, and save the parts. I will take pictures, and send a certified mailing to Chrysler requesting payment. If they don't respond I will file a case with small claims court. It is really disappointing that @ChryslerCares has decided to not honor the warranty that they sold...

You state that you have the Maxcare Lifetime.

Here is the link from Chrysler:

It clearly states that front and rear shocks are covered.

(888) 993-9128 is right on the site, call them directly and ask what's up.

The warranty is likely through a third party insurance company. Rustproofing warranties are like that. Send you around in circles.

I blame the dealership on this. Shocks should have been replaced, deductible paid. Dealership would have been reimbursed the difference, with no questions asked since it's Max Care and a low dollar repair. The dealer opened this can of worms, and I can't believe that Chrysler won't honor their paid for warranty.

"they did not report it as wear and tear" Whats the difference?? That's why they wont cover tires, brakes, wiper blades and the like. So what if it's "wear and tear", IT'S A COVERED PART, unlike wear items I listed.

This topic has me again thinking of cancellng the remaining Max
Care on my van and ask for a refund. I know I won't get it all back, but I wonder if I will get enough back to just use to pay for repairs ourselves.

Maybe they changed the warranty and are trying to make the change retroactive. Warranty Companies try to get away with that.

Bought a pair of downhill ski bindings with a lifetime warranty. They failed in a few years, actually fell apart, the plastic components lost their plasticizers. They tried to change the warranty on me but after a year of haggling I was able to convince them (with receipts) that I bought the bindings a week after they were recalled for defects. Got a pair of higher priced bindings, free of charge, for that effort.

They just can not.

Back on the 90's I bought a set of tires at Montgomery Wards which included a lifetime warranty.

My tires were replaced many times without a problem.

I then moved to another city. I had problems with the new Montgomery Wards store, they refused to honor said warranty. Luckily I had warranty documentation + receipts of all previous tire replacements. Manager had no choice but to honor said warranty.

Replaced all tires few more times, until Wards closed their store for good.

Tried calling the new online Wards, no luck. I was told it was a complete different store.
