I know I wince every time I snug-up the cap on the oil filter housing on my 2013. There's no real positive stop to it like there is on other engines with this style oil filter/housing.

Good post heads-up. I've got a 2014 DGC build date 01/2014. How do I find out the day of build? The above TSB warns "built on or before Jan 20, 2014"
I've yet to get an oil change alert (last done by dealer, where I bought it used ~5000miles ago).

You are safe with your 2013. The housing cracks occurs on 2014 models that use the new oil filter with the different part #. Then by some miracle, those built after 1/20/14, do not have this problem. That leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I used a torque wrench on mine once and made a witness mark with a paint pen.
Now when I tighten the cap I just line up the marks and don't need to dig out the torque wrench each time.

That is a great idea!

I do have a question for ya though...when you install the filter into the filter cap does it spin freely? On my '13 the filter does not move once snapped into the cap. However in the '14 (with the updated design) the filter can be spun after it has been snapped into the filter cap. I only use OE Mopar filters.

You're the one with the good head Sir!

Wished I would have thought about that. I realize I don't have the potential issue the ~2014s have, but was just saying the 2013 and earlier are no walk in the park either, at least in terms of the "feel" of the tightening process.

Hello i have this issue. When yesterday to get an oil change at 6000 miles at the dealership. Took the van to work today. Notice the engine light coming on then the oil light coming on next on my way to work. Undercariage of the van was full of oil. Called the towing. Checked the dipstick there wasnt any oil left on it. Dealer called me they say the housing was cracked and there was some oil left in the oil pan. Theyll replace the housing tomorrow. Hopefully the engine isnt hurt.

Well, how long did you drive with the oil light on?

I cant recall if the 3.6 in the RT minivan configuration has an oil level sender. But for your sake I hope it was just a low oil level light, not a low oil pressure light. Because if you drove for 5 minutes with no oil (oil level below pickup) your bottom end bearings are shot and it would be time for an engine replacement(Hopefully under warranty).

Is your van a 2014 built before 1/20/14? t's a good thing it broke right after the dealer changed the oil, so they can't accuse the last person that changed the oil somehow damaged it. If yours was built before that date, it was bound to break anyway as evidenced by all the previous posts.

Why did this start happening to 2014 models, what did they change about the oil filler neck? Does this happen to 2013 models?
It's just 2014 models built before 1/20/2014, lot's of oil filter housings breaking, so they redesigned/strengthened part. No recall or extended warranty on the weaker original ones that were installed in all Chrysler vehicles that use the 3.6 They changed the housing in 2014 to accommodate a new filter size that can also be used in 3.2 Pentastars. Your 2013 oil filter housing is not affected and uses the old filter that all other 2011-2013 3.6's uses.
