I'm a little worried about the reliability of our 3.6 down the road. They've already had problems with the heads.
Chrysler has taken full ownership of the head problem and has offered an extended warranty (10 yrs or something like that) on the head, so no need to worry. That issue has also been fixed since mid 2012.

Some people have over 100,000 miles on their Pentastar 3.6 already with no problems. So no need to worry.

Chrysler did a lot of testing on the 3.6 as well so it seems as dependable as the 3.3/3.8 in all ways. If the 3.6 was to fail, that might be the end of Chrysler as this engine is the heart and soul for the company with it being in so many Chrysler products.

Ours has 62k (62,139mi) on it. I couldn't remember, so I had to go out to the garage and look at the EVIC.

Keep in mind that if Chrysler made a 1st Generation minivan these days, it would be grounded from all the regulations enacted over the years since then, and would likely fail, or score poorly on, most every crash worthiness test. It could not be the same van today due to the change in Standards and Customer expectations for a comparatively modern vehicle.

I just picked this up yesterday at an estate sale.

1990 Dodge Grand Caravan LE with 3.3 V6. 82,000 miles. Needs some work, brakes, exhaust, probably suspension. But not terrible, I picked it up for $1000. Might keep it, that was the original intent, but might flip it. I don't know. I don't want to destroy this thing.

It looks better in pictures then it really is.

1000 USD? That's very cheap, when you know that I paid 1500 euros (2000 USD) for my 90 Limited that is not in the condition of your's

I own two Voyagers, a 1988 LE and a 1994 LE. the old '88 was plagued with little issues I've had to fix over the last couple of years. The engine and Trans work fine, its all the other nickel and dime stuff I've had to sink into it that's been killing me. So far, rebuilt front end, 3 ball joints, 2 tie rods, 1 bearing unit and two complete struts I've put in myself. New fuel filter, (original one never replaced in 25 years!), new 02 sensor, new plugs, wires, distributor cap, several oil changes, air filter, new rims, tires, lift gate shocks, solder repair of wires leading to driver's door for power locks, new shocks in the back, front driver's caliper replaced (my fault, i screwed it up after stealing the rotor to put in the '94 in a pinch), to the auto wreckers for a replacement grill to replace the one I accidentally broke, a front wiper motor that had ceased up after sitting and a better headlight. Now i need to hit the auto wrecker for a set of rear drums and pads as we are now metal on metal. Also, the Rack and Pinion is leaking bad and will need replacement. This is my winter beater, looks rough but will eat the ice, sand and salt while the '94 sits in the garage for the winter. They are both work Vans and have both paid for themselves several times over and cheap like borscht to insure.

The 1994 on the other hand is a far superior vehicle, engineered from the ground up, not something whipped together and thrown on a K car platform like the Gen 1's were. This Van is by far the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned and has only needed minor repair. So far, it has needed a new starter (i burned the old one out), an EGR valve, front brake pads and a rotor stolen from the '88, the van didn't start from the ignition so I had to jimmy rig a push button starter system in, new plugs and wires, a transmission fluid change I did myself (stick to ATF + 4 folks, I recommend Mobil brand) and a rear gate wiper motor, new tires and rims (went back to stock steel ones, the aluminum bling bling rims that came with it were bent beyond repair, and a few oil changes. I purchased it a year ago for $540 form a soccer mom who just bought a new vehicle at the time and was desperate to get rid of it in a truck heavy used vehicle market.

I've owned a couple of 1995 Vans before, a Caravan and a Voyager both with the A 604 four speed nightmare transmission and both vehicles packed it in and were junked. I've also owned a 1986 Caravan with a 2.2 four cylinder and a stick, a 1987 Mini Ram and a 1988 Grand voyager. I have owned trucks but I still to this day prefer Minivans for their versatility, comfort and roominess.

I will send pics later. Thanks!

Welcome to the site.
Good to hear there is still yet another 94 running around out there.

PS: If your 94 rear wiper motor was shorted out and blowing the air bag circuit fuse, Chrysler will replace under a recall for free.

Even the 3.3L wasn't perfect when it came out. Some of the early ones had valve springs breaking. Teething pains if you will.

It's funny you mention that. I have replaced the rear wiper motor on the '94 with one I found at the auto wrecker and it stopped working after 3 seconds, the air bag light went on as it shares the same circuit as the wiper. I've replaced the fuse and it blew instantly. Before I go for a recall replacement, i'm going to take out the new motor and hook it directly to the battery and test it. I'm also going to do a continuity voltage test from the relay controlling the motor to the connections leading to the motor.

I've also run across another issue with the '94. The back up lights wont come on. I've heard that there's a relay sensor deal that connects to the transmission that controls that circuit that may be the problem. The fuses and lights all check out fine. I wonder if there's a recall for that?

I have heard of no recalls for that reverse lights on these vans.

New to forum, but not to Mopar minivans - Mine's a 1990 Plymouth Grand Voyager. Owned it for the last 12 years, and right now it's got over 219,000 on the odometer. Biggest problems have been head gaskets, radiator and tie rod ends. Trying to find out why I don't get heat in the cabin right now, but otherwise a good, dependable ride. Big plans in the works - think "very unlikely performance car"... Pictures will follow as soon as I figure out the technology.

I have issues with low cabin heat in my '94 Voyager, had same exact issue with my '95 Caravan. There was a previous post here about a solution you can flush through your heater core with, oxalic acid flush + sodium carbonate neutralizer. Google that. If your heater core is old and leaking and gives off the smell of antifreeze in your cabin, best to replace it altogether. Check for slow leaks in the hoses. Also, check your thermostat, make sure it's not sticking or if it's not the right temperature rating. Check to see if the blower is working ok and there'es plenty or airflow. also check the cable between the temperature setting on your console to see if it's controlling the diaphragm inside the heater core shroud.

Other tricks include stuffing a sheet of cardboard between the radiator and front grill to retain heat to the engine on very cold days. Be sure to rip out the cardboard if your temp guage goes above 3/4 to avoid engine overheating. Us canadians do it all the time when we have a week of steady -20 temps day and night.

Hello
I would like to show you our minivans that saves.

Amazing "ground up" restoration on the '89!!! It's like a brand new 1989 Plymouth Grand Voyager!

For those who have not checked out his first link, it is worth the visit. (I found by clicking on the picture it advances to the next photo.)

Thank you for sharing!

Beautiful leather interior and beautiful car! From Collectors Auto Supply did not buy even one molding. Every time I found somewhere cheaper, but otherwise it's very expensive. For example, one piece, I found in Norway for $ 203 with shipping. But now it is very difficult to find some. Still I am looking for 15 pieces of moldings.
