I have a 2015 town and country with 123k miles that has a clicking/knocking sound. Our mechanic thinks the knocking may be a main or rod bearing. Is that something worth fixing or is it better just to get a new engine?

Ask your mechanic to check the flywheel (Flexplate) for cracks. A cracked flexplate will make a rod lime sound.

He must pay attention to detail, sometimes cracks are hard to see. He must turn the engine manually to inspect the flywheel (Flexplate) for cracks.

Show you mechanic the following pictures so he can know what to look for:

also... the rocker rollers are known for ticking and are much more common then any rod bearing issues with these issues. Rod bearings are not a common issue. The lifters/rollers and the flex plate are much more common (and less expensive) causes of engine noise.

I have not seen any posts with rod/main bearing failures on 3.6 engine
