Dirt catching on Rear

Have had to drive a dirt road (detour) a couple of times lately and each time the rear of the van is covered in dirt. There seems to be some airflow that sucks the dirt up and deposits over the entire rear of the van.

Has anybody else experienced this? Does anyone know of any part (deflector, spoiler, etc.) that would prevent this air flow?

Does your van have A factory spoiler on the tailgate?
If you look closely at my sig pic you can see mine.

Don't all 5th gens have that? the CHMSL is in it.

the shape of the van determines "air swirl". No much can be done there. With that said, in previous years, a spoiler helped. Our 1st gen had an added spoiler to helped keep the back window clean by redirecting air. It helped.

I dont think there are any good looking aftermarket spoilers for the 5th gen. I've seen this....it's kind of ridiculous looking, but it might grow on you?? lol

you could get creative and put a lip spoiler on it....it would take a lot of homework to find one that would actually fit though.

Maybe you could get a trailer tail?

Aerodynamic drag, the vortex left behind vehicles (and the bigger the vehicle, the worse the vortex), is what is sucking dirt up from the road and onto the rear of the vehicle. Short of changing the aerodynamic profile of the van, there is nothing you can do.

VW had no input on the design, which took place in the 05-06 time period. They just came along later and spec-ed a few bits of mascara and lip gloss.
