When changing out the old plastic housing for the new Aluminum one:

I have read that you should drain some of the engine coolant to lower the coolant level below the oil cooler housing position, to avoid having coolant flood into the oil passages when the filter housing/cooler block is removed.

Is that correct?

Any need to also drain off the engine oil levels for the same reason?

If there is coolant in there, yes, it would be wise.

Oil remains in the oil pan, so no reason to drain it.

Yes, on the coolant. As for the oil, you should remove the filter to let as much drain back to the pan as possible. You won't get all of either, but you can reduce the size of the mess you'll have to clean up and possibly avoid the need for changing the oil.

Still no availability after the first batch sold out, but figured I'd share some links to places that claim to be getting stock in the future. This includes the ones previously linked. Local options can be found on the official product page. Beware that being listed on that page does not mean they have stock. Call before you go.

Amazon
Auto Value
Car Parts.com (based on site directory naming conventions, should work once stock is in)
Find It Parts
Rock Auto

Small list, but currently that's all that I can find listing it. No one currently has one either.

Aww... Someone renamed my thread. :p Guess it does help to have a descriptive title, but I figured curiosity would get to people and they'd come see what all the fuss was about. 🙃😉

Nevermind. They had an inventory error. I placed an order and they just called to cancel it.

Rapidly selling stock or sputtering production for whatever reason?
Seriously, did the air ever get under the wings of this part?
Not looking for a bad guy. Sometimes **** doesn't happen.

How 'bout an "elimination kit"?

Pretty sure it's rapidly selling stock. The OEM parts were selling out faster than they could be made, so these are too. On the upside, anyone wanting the OEM part can now find them.

Currently there is no elimination kit and if there were such a thing it would need to be just as complex as the original part, so there's really no point in it.

Ooh, fancy! I have been comtemplating upgrading the oil filter housing on mine to the 2014+ part, I guess my mind is made up now.

Make sure you also get the 2014+ cooler block, filter cap, and filter. Those parts will not swap from a 2011-2013. Your sensors can be moved to the metal one without issue.

Got mine delivered today! Ordered from Rock Auto last Friday.

Pretty quick fulfillment considering the current supply chain and transportation issues.

I will visit my auto Repair Shop and get an estimate from them for the labor to install it.

They said they have changed many of the plastic ones in the past, so they should have a fairly firm idea of what is involved.

Lucky. Ordered mine Thursday, was supposed to be here Saturday (coming from NJ), but Friday it left my state (GA) and went to FL and has been there since, moving further away each update. 🤬 Think a bit too much Cali kush is going through FedEx and the handlers are high out of their mind.

I'm lucky that I live close to a FEDEX hub.
My package came from NJ directly to Northern KY Saturday and Sunday, and was out for delivery this morning.
Pretty good for Standard Shipping.

I have seen many other cases of goofy routing on other orders. We have stuff shipped from a local Amazon warehouse that goes to Central Ohio, over 100 miles away, and then comes back here. Not sure the Artificial Intelligence they have tried to use for routing is as polished as they want to believe.

FedEx typically routes through their large Memphis Hub for anything coming my way. Lots of FedEx air traffic to/from Memphis.
Why does my FedEx package go to Memphis?

It is the busiest cargo airport in the United States, second busiest in the world. Many of the packages go through Memphis because they have the technology/manpower to sort packages there to determine where they go. FedEx has easy access to most of the country with the central location of Memphis TN.
Routing is: US source to Memphis, to Montreal, to Dartmouth NS, and out for delivery. About 3 to 4 days once the item is picked up to start the process.

FEDEX Air Cargo and NEXT DAY Packages will definitely go thru Memphis. Standard Packages seem to be space available on Air Routes, but in many cases, the Truck/Freight routes get things delivered almost as quickly.

My former employer had an arrangement with FedEx to get critical service parts shipped from Nagoya Japan on an overnight basis. Those shipments always were routed thru Memphis, then placed on another flight to the end user. It was a very costly fee for that service, but having a machine down could lose thousands of dollars every day.

Living close to a Fedex hub doesn't help much, really.

Packages usually just "touch" the hub and leave.

My daughter found a little trick to have her Amazon packages delivered on the same day she order it. I tried it and it really works if you live in a major city, otherwise you get it day after. No additional fees either.
