Intermittent Airbag Light issue

Hi everyone
I have a 2002 T&C LX Minivan with the 3.3 L Engine
The AirBag light comes on intermittently..
Now and then it turns off...
When the airbag light is on the horn still works and so does the Cruise Control.
I checked the ODB and there are no codes set.
It has been quite cold in the NorthEast and I have read that others have the same issue.
Should I replace the clockspring on the outside chance it is actually bad? Or is something else going on?
Anything else to check?
Thanks!
Dan

Well I did it again. "Airbag" (SRS) codes fall under BODY codes NOT chassis codes.

Some parts stores do use scanners capable of reading "airbag" codes. Call around in your area.

Amazon has some listed. If you go this route make sure it says either airbag or SRS (Safety Restraint System). Don't confuse ABS with airbag like I did. ABS is the anti-lock brake system. Read the details and make sure it will read codes on your van.

Here's a list of generic body codes. I can't find specific Chrysler codes if they even exist:http://www.myscantool.com/dtc/body.html

I make my usual recommendation that you disconnect the neg batt cable for a few minutes, that has always worked for me. So far it has eliminated ABS and engine lights for me.

This warning system is a PITA and seems to be full of gremlins. I installed a cheap green knob batt disconnect just for that purpose, it also is handy for maintenance.

Hi everyone..
I thought I had nothing to loose at this point...so I replaced my Air Bag Clockspring and since doing so the airbag light hasn't come back on!
lets see if it stays that way!
For the record.. I never did get my van checked for anything other that the regular P ODB type codes..
As well when the airbag light was on (which was most of the time) my horn, cruise control and blinkers still all worked..

Cost to change clock spring? Process?

How much did you spend on the clock spring? Any issues to be aware of that make removing the parts difficult? I've read basically disconnect the battery for at least 2 minutes, remove the bolt covers on the back of the steering wheel, pull the cover and airbag off, remove the clock spring, and reverse the process. Is it true you do not need to pull the steering wheel to change the clock spring?

I bought a Doorman Clock Spring for $30
Let the battery be disconnected for 10+ mins
I borrowed a steering wheel puller.
Everything is metric.. I think the nut on the wheel is 21mm..but can't quite remember...
I found a youtube video where a mechanic replaced the clockspring but on a Dodge something or other which was essentially the same process I went through..
The big difference was that somewhere I read for the T&C to let the capicator drain down for 10 mins
I waited 15
good luck!

Good news. Glad you got it on the first stab. You also proved once again you don't have to have a dead cruise and horn in addition to an airbag light to confirm the clockspring is toast. Cheers!

BTW - Turn sigs don't go through the clockspring.

This has convinced me to carry a clock spring as a spare!

02 T&C Cranks won't start>gets towed then just fine

Hi Everyone
Been chasing this one for quite a while
02 T&C 3.3 Liter LX van 164K Miles
Now and then it won't start and just cranks, with no spark but has fuel Never sets a code when in fact it does start up. When I get the thing towed to the garage all the movement must reset something, because the van starts after the tow.

What I have done so far.
I took apart all the grounds I could find and cleaned them.
I took all the connectors from the base of the fuse box and clean up everything.
Once when I did get a code about the ignition coil replaced that.
After all the above still had problems now and then.
So replaced the AutoShutdown and Rule Pump Relay.
Still had problems now and then.
Had the ECM benchchecked..and it was fine even after several people told me that it had to be replaced!

What else can I check! I have spent hours looking at this engine..not sure what to do next that would be really worthwhile...crankshaft sensor? Camshaft Sensor? I could just be wasting my money!
Thanks for any ideas!

Post this as a new thread. Why? When people scan through the thread titles on the opening forum page all they see is a thread titled "Intermittent Airbag Light". Nothing to do with your no start issue. Those not interested in airbags will skip over it. A no start problem is far more common and of much more interest to many more people. A new thread will have many more eyes on it.
