95 Voyager, Friends vehicle.

Intermittenly the check engine light and brake light will come on while driving then go off. I have not checked codes yet. Brakes work fine and engine runs fine. The airbag light is on all the time.

Could this be a closkspring issue, instrument cluster sodering issue or BCM related?

When I check it out I am going to pull the IOD fuse for a few minutes and see if that helps.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Only thing I can come up with that connect the brake light with the check engine light is the brake switch on the brake pedal. I suspect if you do the key dance to get the codes you will see a MIL code 65. It means that switch has a problem. I'd inspect the wiring before I changed it. It's the same switch that controls your rear brake lights.

Your airbag light is another issue. There was a recall on 95s for shorted wires blowing airbags NHTSA ID# 99V113000. It doesn't specify where the shorted wires were so the clockspring would still be in play. Kill two birds with one move...disiconnect the battery and you'll reset both the airbag module and body control module. Don't thinks it's BCM related but...who knows? Try it. No it's not the cluster. Symptoms don't match.

Plug your VIN# in here and see what recalls have been done on your van: http://www-5.chrysler.com/webselfservice/chrysler/index.jsp?screenName=recall&country=us&emailUrl=goToEmailForm('R') Copy/paste

Checked the codes on the vehicle it showed #32 EGR system, which I had replaced a vaccum line on before but forgot to disconnect battery to clear codes. Did as you auggested RIP and disconnected battery, clean battery posts and cable ends. She drove it for a couple of days now and I don't think either brake light or cel has come on. Checked for codes today and none present. I drove it today for a test drive for a vibration problem which was the left front tire showing cords, She went to get 2 new tires on front but have not heard the results yet. The brake fluid was full, so the fluid level indicator does not come into affect. Neither light came on while I drove it.

According to site suggested for the recall on the wiring for airbag issue the reply was no pending recall work to be done. (not the exact words but basic meaning) AIr bag lite does stay on. I will have to call dealer to check into more on issue.

Hope problem is solved.

Thanks for input and advice

Thanks for the update. There are scanners that troubleshoot airbag systems but, they are anything but cheap. One of those rare times for the pros to look at it. Hope all turns out well. If that's not an option there is a guy who posts here or over at AF who is in the airbag business. I'll see if I can find a post from him.
