GT replaced the RT a couple years ago. The both came with a stiffer suspension until just recently, I think they stopped including that.

 

Oil filter cap: 25 nm = 18.4 ft.lbs, (says torque on the cap).

I used articulated socket wrench, shallow 24 mm, 6 sided impact socket (more readily available size at the store). Space is tight so may need to make room by disconnecting air hose, nothing major. Remove engine cover first by grasping on sides and pulling up with a bit of a tug (4 pegs on cover sit in rubber grommets on the engine).

 

Make sure you get a socket for the oil filter cap if you don't already have it (24mm or 15/16"). Seems you'll have plenty of time to find one. And don't go ham tightening it back on or you'll regret it. Seat then stop.

I got my oil and filter for my first oil change, which with 328 miles on it may be a while. I took Jeepman's example and got Valvoline Daily Protection Synthetic blend 5W-30 oil. It does meet the MS6395 requirements. I got a Mopar MO-349 filter at Oreilly's for about $8 with veteran discount. I was going to order several from Rock Auto, but they don't show them anymore. The oil cost $16 something for 5 Quarts at Walmart. I got two jugs so I could add the extra quart. I am good to go whenever I change oil.

 

I have hauled lumber on them for a shed, also an extension ladder a few times, plus down hill skis/snow board quite often. Haven't used the ones on the 2016 yet though.

 

I've used our roof rails a few times at most, once to bring home a 28-foot extension ladder, the other times I don't remember as it's been so long since I've used it.

 

That would work better than mine. Of course I never intended to use them anyway.

 

I was glad mine didn't have a roof rack. My 2008 came with one. I took the rails off immediately and stored them. I still have them unused. It is just more to deal with when cleaning it.

 

2011+ have the roof rack that folds down to fit in the side rails to cut down on drag without having to stash the rails elsewhere.

I like the look of the Blacktop. Not really a fan of the GT's body color grille. I have the standard chrome, which looks good on white, but I don't like it on most of the other colors.

Interesting tidbit I just found out. While trying to see what standard options a SXT and GT trims would have had, I found out there is no GT trim for 2020. Instead there is a GT Fleet trim. I'm guessing this means all the GTs of 2020 were sold new only as fleet vehicles (ie: rentals).

 

One can always buy the RT or GT badging, and install, if it makes them feel better. It just sticks on. It's also easily removable.
Many vans, that have had rear end damage, have no badging.

 

RT was what was on the paperwork I got from the dealer. My 2008 had SXT on the back of the van. This one had nothing like that. I just finally saw a text from Dodge that showed what it was. I would rather not have the Blacktop trim, but it was what they had.

 

Does the RT cost the same as an SXT? Just wondering aloud.

The only thing I don't like about the Blacktop trim was not having a roof rack. We also bought the only one the dealer had left. That was all they had.

 

Most trims have chrome grille bezel. Blacktop has black bezel. GT has body color bezel.

Lots of people think GT is a performance trim, but it's just an appearance package.

I just noticed on a text from Dodge that my Grand Caravan is a 2020 SXT Blacktop. All I had seen before said RT. It doesn't have that anywhere on the vehicle that I have seen.

 

When I saw the pics I knew it was an SXT with the Blacktop edition options.. Looks exactly like my 2015 version. I was wondering what RT meant, but that was probably a mistake.

Had to clean some road tar off of mine today.. That didn't look so nice. Looks better now though. Are you one of these guys that's frequently washing/waxing their vehicles, giving them the clay bar treatment? Not me though.

Thank you. I am not one who details my vehicles regularly. I try to keep them decent, but often fail. I had cleaned the 2008 recently, then the rain and snow helped as I didn't move it until afterwards. The 2020 was cleaned at the dealer before I got it and hasn't gotten dirty yet.

So far, I haven't driven it much. It was just not obviously more responsive. I am hoping for a little better gas mileage also. Since moving to Texas most of my driving has been city driving, so I haven't really seen what it will do.

 

The 3.6L will take on hills without shifting down as much as a 3.8L. The 3.6L definitely has more power.

 

I'm not disappointed, but I guess things I read had me thinking the 3.6 would be more responsive than the 3.8. I cannot feel that. It seems like now that the 3.8 is a little peppier than the 3.6. Not a problem, but I was just expecting more.

You’ll like the 3.6, and the oil change isn’t that hard. What I miss from my 02 is the comfort and drive ability. This new vans are much larger, and drive that way. My 02 was fun to drive, but my 12, and now my 14 are big lugs to drive.

I remove the engine cover and air filter cover when doing my oil filter replacement. it makes it much easier. Yesterday was blizzard day, so I did the OLF and tire rotation on my 2 daily drivers. Only 4000 miles on each, but the oil was 9 months old and I had the time. I try to go between 5000 and 6000 miles. This change, I used the Havoline 6 quart box, as it is convenient and priced very well. I’m usually a Valvoline guy.
