Can anyone help me understand the difference between the SXT and GT Models? I’m looking for something around a 2019 model year but can’t find any clear details regarding what’s the difference between these models. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I recently bought a 2019 GT with 16K miles, a friend bought a 2019 SXT with 40K miles at the same time. He appears to get significantly better gas mileage, but I make shorter trips. I do not believe there is any difference in the engine or driveline. Maybe we should swap vehicles for a week, LOL.
The one difference I've heard of is that the GT has a stiffer suspension. I do like the way the GT handles, but I haven't driven an SXT to compare the two.
I'm sure the group will fill in the blanks!

Here is a good site I use for vehicle options, accessories, trim levels, and packages. The only downside is it is for USA vehicles only, and being that I live in Canada, the options and trim levels vary with what equipment was actually in what trim level. A handy site I've used a number of times Auto-Brochures

Starting 2011 these vans had one engine, the 3.6L Pentastar engine with the 62TE transmission. Fuel economy will really come down to how you drive, if you use the remote start, city driving vs highway driving and so on. Realistically, it's the same engine and assuming nothing is wrong with it, they really should be getting the same economy. Do the swap, I'm curious!

GT in 2019 was a fleet exclusive trim, so it might have a few fancy bits the others didn't have. It was like a deluxe rental model. Not sure, but I think the GT trim got the discontinued R/T trim's features.

GT has darkened lights, black wheels, red stitching for the seats, more black in the interior, and is fairly well optioned out.
Check the 2019 or 2020 sales brochure or online information.

Here's a Canadian Dodge DGC site for the 2019s, providing a comparison of models.

OP is in the US. There are a lot of differences between Canada and US versions. As others said, the GT was fleet-only in the US. There were a lot of differences between the Canada and US SXT models (I shopped both and ended up buying a Canadian one).

While Canada got 9(!) trim levels in 2019, the US got only 3, plus the fleet-only GT.

Attached is the 2019 US brochure for reference.

Yeah GT usually had fancier features standard too like heated front seats and steering wheel (some have heated mid row seats also), window shades in second row (some in third row too), rear overhead console with reading and halo lighting, some had the Safety Sphere Group (blind spot monitoring and reverse sensors with rear cross traffic warning). I believe they had rear 120 V inverter outlet also.

I rented Caravans all the time and they were always GT trim. US and Canada.

Not always GTs. My wife had a SXT rental in FL (from Dollar/Thrifty) and I drove our Canadian SXT down. It was fun doing a side by side comparison before returning the rental.

I had a SXT rental last March in FL too. If you look at US for sale listings for SXTs, you can find lots that were former rentals.

I too have a 2019 GT that came from Hertz last September 2020 (in hindsight perfect timing). My observations are the same as earlier posts, in that the rental companies had different trims they put into their fleets (SXT, GT and R/T), but the GT trim only went to rental companies. The GT was a good trim package for rentals - nice but not the top of the line - wears well, easy to clean, good value in (purchase) and out (selling). put your VIN # in here at the end of this https://www.chrysler.com/hostd/windowsticker/getWindowStickerPdf.do?vin=
This link will show you all of the options.
Cheers,

I owned a 2018 SXT and now I own a 2019 GT.

Differences are:
  • Leather/vinyl seats (GT) vs. cloth (faux suede)/vinyl seats (SXT)
  • Navigation system (GT)
  • LED interior lights with more, separately switchable lamps (GT) vs. incandescent dome lights that can't be switched on individually (SXT) (someone reading in the back would have th driver blinded by the front light also having to be on)
  • Inside roof console with multiple fold-down compartments (probably optionally fold-down DVD screens?), with a blue "halo light" (dimmable) all arouoond it (GT) vs. "plain roof" (SXT)
  • Instrument cluster info display has WAY more data and features/pages/modes on GT (on SXT, I coul;d never see the trip counter and odometer at the same time, GT has multiple items visible concurrently with more informative (text-based) warnings/data
  • Heated steering wheel and front seats (GT only)
  • Automatic climate control (GT) vs "regular A/C" (SXT)
  • Sound system has more spakers in GT, with better bass
  • Switchable 120V inverter in GT
  • Blackened headlight and front grille trim, as mentioned before
  • Black painted alloy wheels (GT) vs silver painted (SXT) (wheel patterns/shapes seem different)
  • Retractable sun shades for middle row windows
Everything else seems the same, EXCEPT my GT doesn't have a factory roof rack, which is a pity... (I'm contemplating installing one as they are handy)

Hope this helps, and good luck.

Mine is a 2017 SXT and have Black Leather-Suede seats, no cloth.

I believe you can get different options depending on the package you get.

The GTs here have red stitching for the leather seats. Looks good too.

OK, so the guys that go to the Boneyards will be grabbing those red stitched leather seats to swap out their white stitched leather seats.

As for the OP, I have a 2010 Routan SEL. I like it. I previously had a 2009 SEL Premium that I drove to death, and miss a few of the features on there the SEL doesn't have. Downgrading is no fun. LOL

Fun fact is that DGCs and T&Cs had options not available on the Routan. A fully optioned out T&C had the most stuff available. I bought them both used and they were the best deals around for what I was looking for, so I can't regret it... But in many ways I wish I had been able to get a T&C. In terms of features they're really the ultimate for these vehicles.

If I were you I'd focus less on the model year, and more on the mileage. You don't NEED a 2019 or whatever, they're the same vehicle. Find a super low mileage T&C from the last couple years of production and it'll blow doors on the newer DGCs, AND it'll probably cost you less money. I've never understood why people will pay more for a newer model year... The mileage is what really matters. Rubber and gaskets can go bad on older cars that weren't driven much, but if you're not comparing a 3 year old car to a 25 year old car it doesn't really matter. Buying a few years further back with comparable mileage for less money is where it's at.

If I ever get another van of this generation I'm definitely going to hold out for a T&C from the last couple years of production.

I was downloading 5th gen brochures to figure out the different trims and options and I swear GT had a different and more sport suspension tune.

Also the cloth seats on my 25 year old Grand Voyager with 250k miles are far far superior to any leather seat I've ever seen as far as longevity. Driver seat looks as good as the passenger. And super comfy (I have 4th gen with leather too).

And doesn't Mercedes use fake leather (I'm down with any good materials).
